Seperti menemukan tehnik marketing baru, beberapa band papan atas membagikan lagunya secara gratis, beberapa waktu lalu Nine Inch Nails, sekarang Coldplay membagikan single “Violet Hill” yang juga akan berada di album mereka berikutnya ” Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.” Album tersebut diproduseri oleh Brian Eno, yang juga dianggap bertanggung jawab atas beberapa part lagu-lagu yang seperti diambil dari era “glam-rock”.

Lagu ini sendiri kata Chris Martin pada sebuah interview, mengingatkan nya pada masa kecilnya karena lagu ini memiliki “chalky, pastel feeling” “Imagine a pseudo guitar-like circus music with a pinch of Chicago… It’s something new from us and you will be impressed.”
